Nala Dunsany

"My father taught me everything I know about guns. He used to laugh and say that I could shoot before I could read. Looking back, though, I can't say that's a big exaggeration. I entered my first competition when I was eight. Won my first trophy for marksmanship when I was nine. My hero growing up was Annie Oakley; I was always the designated marksman for my unit.

In the end, though, I'd say it was the lessons I learned from my mother that saved my life. She was the one who taught me how to move quietly and be still, to melt into the wind and become as invisible as a blade of grass. The reason that she was able to take such amazing wildlife photos was that she knew how to mask her presence so well. Even predators wouldn't see her! I never would have made it down from Lookout Mountain alive if I hadn't learned those lessons as a child."
