"When Edgar and I first met, he was a hunter as well as a soldier. We ran into one another in Africa. We were both on safari, you see... the difference is that he was carrying enough guns for a whole battalion, and I was armed with nothing but my cameras. You wan't to talk about the mismatch of the century! Ed was six feet of straight-laced traditional values from a quiet country town; I was five feet of bleeding heart liberal straight out of Greenwich Village. And I was all mouth back in those days, the sort of girl who could talk the ears off a wooden indian.
You'll just have to imagine how I laid into poor Ed; I'll confess it makes me wince even now to think of the things I said. God only knows how the poor man fell in love with me. It was definitely a rocky road. But on the day he asked me to marry him, he gave me his word that if I said yes, he would never shoot another living thing, unless someone's life was at stake.
He never broke a promise to me. The last time I saw him he was at the window with an Enfield, telling the kids and me to get out the back while we could. He never missed a shot... but they just kept getting back up again... over and over..."
